Working Principle

The WINMETER Y-Type Strainer operates on the simple principle of mechanical interception. As fluid (liquid or gas) enters the strainer body from the inlet, the flow path directs the medium through the strainer screen. The screen acts as a precision "sieve," trapping solid impurity particles that are larger than the mesh aperture. The clean fluid then passes through the screen and continues its flow through the pipeline via the strainer outlet.

This process effectively safeguards downstream equipment such as pressure reducing valves, relief valves, pumps, heat exchangers, and instruments from clogging, wear, or damage. This ensures the stable operation of the entire system and extends the service life of the equipment. The intercepted impurities accumulate at the bottom of the screen. When cleaning is required, simply open the drain plug at the bottom or remove the screen cover to take out the screen and clean it, restoring its filtration function.

Installation & Maintenance Guide

 

1. Installation Direction

  • Horizontal installation with the drain port facing downwards is recommended. For vertical installation, ensure the flow direction is from top to bottom with the drain port pointing down.
  • Ensure the arrow marked on the valve body aligns with the direction of media flow.

2. Routine Maintenance

  • Clean the screen approximately one week after a new system starts to remove construction residue.
  • Regularly monitor pressure gauges across the strainer. A pressure drop exceeding 0.1 MPa (or as specified) indicates screen clogging and requires cleaning.

3. Cleaning Procedure

  • Close the valves before and after the strainer and safely relieve the pressure to zero.
  • Unscrew the drain plug (or remove the bottom flange cover) and take out the screen.
  • Rinse the screen with clean water. Use a soft brush to remove stubborn deposits if necessary. Do not use hard tools that could damage the screen.
  • Reinstall the screen, tighten the drain plug/cover, and reopen the valves to resume normal operation.

1. Size: Match the pipeline diameter, typically not less than the inlet diameter of the associated pump.

2. Pressure Rating: Select PN16, PN25, Class150, or higher based on the system's maximum operating pressure.

Corrosive media: Stainless Steel 304/316.

Food/Pharmaceutical: Hygienic grade Stainless Steel.

4. Filtration Accuracy: Choose the mesh size based on the impurity particle size and the requirements of downstream equipment (e.g., 20-30 mesh for pump protection, 40-60 mesh before heat exchangers, 80-100 mesh for nozzles).
