Product Overview
The WPD series is a high-performance horizontal Woltman type removable water meter that inherits the essence of German industrial metering and complies with ISO 4064 international standards. This product is specifically designed for municipal water supply mains, industrial bulk water metering, commercial complexes, agricultural irrigation, and district heating systems. It offers both Cold Water Version (T50) and Hot Water Version (T90) configurations to meet all scenario metering needs from drinking water to industrial hot water. The product covers the full series from DN40 to DN300, precisely matching applications from small commercial users to large water supply networks.
Its core advantages lie in the wide measuring range (R80/R160/R200) and the removable measuring element structure, which not only meets the economical requirements of conventional metering but also addresses complex operating conditions with significant pipeline pressure fluctuations and the need for nighttime micro-flow monitoring through high-precision options (R160/R200). WINMETER WPD water meters have been widely used in numerous large and medium-sized city water utilities in China, making them an ideal choice for scientific selection and reducing non-revenue water.
Core Technology Revealed
-
Hydraulic Balanced Impeller Technology
The WPD water meter adopts a unique hydraulic balanced technology. When the flow rate reaches a certain value, the high-speed rotating impeller receives a reverse hydraulic thrust in the axial direction, counteracting the friction on the front shaft end. This design ensures the impeller runs smoothly even under high flow rates, making the front shaft tip less prone to wear and capable of withstanding large flows while maintaining long-term metering accuracy throughout its lifecycle.
-
3-Point Adjustment Technology
Traditional water meters often suffer from eccentric wear due to uneven radial forces on the impeller shaft under high flow rates. WPD's multi-point adjustment technology solves the problem of radial force imbalance on the impeller shaft, significantly reducing radial wear and ensuring long-term stability of the water meter.
-
Removable Measuring Element
The unique structural design allows for quick replacement of the internal measuring element or repairs without removing the meter body or shutting off the water supply. This minimizes downtime and significantly saves labor maintenance costs. The measuring element is made of high-strength engineering plastic (heat-resistant engineering plastic for hot water version), offering wear resistance and corrosion resistance.
-
Vacuum Copper Sealed Register & IP68 Protection
The register adopts vacuum copper sealing technology, preventing internal fogging and ensuring readings are always clear. The register can be rotated 360 degrees for easy on-site reading. The overall protection level can reach IP68, adapting to harsh working conditions such as humid manholes or short-term submersion.

Applications
What practical problems does WINMETER WPD solve?
🏭 Industrial Bulk Metering: Provides accurate billing data for large water users like factories, manufacturing, and mining, reducing billing disputes between supply and demand sides. The T90 hot water version is suitable for high-temperature scenarios like industrial circulating water and boiler makeup water.
🏢 Commercial Complexes & Buildings: Suitable for air conditioning makeup water, fire protection water, and main inlet metering in office buildings, shopping malls, hotels, and schools. Its low pressure loss characteristic does not affect water supply pressure in high-rise buildings.
🌾 Agricultural Irrigation: Suitable for pipeline water metering on large farms and orchards, wear-resistant, and adaptable to unstable water quality in the field.
💧 Municipal DMA Zoning: As a key instrument for DMA zoning, its high sensitivity (R160/R200) effectively monitors background leakage in pipeline networks, reducing non-revenue water. Numerous large and medium-sized city water utilities in China have adopted WPD water meters for network upgrades.
🔥 District Heating Systems: The T90 hot water version is specially designed for district heating networks, accurately measuring hot water consumption to support energy management and heat-based billing.
🏥 High-quality Drinking Water Projects: In high-quality drinking water household access projects, WPD high-precision mechanical water meters are selected as main pipeline metering equipment to ensure water supply safety.
🏠 Small Commercial & Villa Water Use: The DN40 small diameter model is suitable for water metering in small shops, independent villas, and small agricultural facilities.
Installation & Maintenance Guide
Correct installation is key to ensuring metering accuracy and extending service life.
Installation Tips
- Upstream/Downstream Straight Pipe Requirements: Straight pipe sections should be installed before and after the meter. It is recommended to follow the "10D upstream, 5D downstream" rule, meaning the upstream straight pipe length should be 10 times the meter diameter, and downstream should be 5 times. If conditions don't allow, at least ensure 5D upstream and 3D downstream.
- Horizontal Installation: The meter must be installed horizontally, without tilting. Tilting forward/backward or left/right will reduce meter sensitivity. The installation direction must match the water flow direction.
- Strainer Installation Notes: WPD meters come with a built-in strainer by default. During installation, it is crucial to install the strainer separately from the meter body-the strainer should be installed between the upstream short pipe and the upstream valve. Do not install it directly attached to the meter, as this will cause flow velocity shear and affect metering accuracy.
- Pipeline Flushing: After installing the upstream valve, flush the pipeline before the valve first. Only install the water meter after the water runs clear. Prevent construction sediment from clogging the meter strainer.
- Slow Filling: After installation, slowly fill the pipeline with water to prevent high-speed airflow from damaging the meter measuring element.
- Support Pier Construction: Construct support piers under the short pipes before and after the meter, typically at a height of 0.4m, to reduce stress on other pipe fittings and facilitate future meter replacement.
Maintenance Advantage
- Removable Measuring Element: The measuring element can be removed for cleaning or replacement without taking the meter off the pipeline.
- Regular Maintenance: It is recommended to inspect the strainer annually and clean it regularly based on water quality conditions.
- Smart Diagnostics: When equipped with an NB-IoT remote module, you can monitor flow anomalies, battery status, etc., in real-time.

FAQ
Q: What is the difference between WPD and WSD water meters?
A: WPD is a horizontal Woltman type, with axial straight-through flow and low pressure loss, suitable for high-flow, continuous water use applications (e.g., factory main lines). WSD is a vertical impeller type with better low-flow performance and a built-in strainer, suitable for applications with fluctuating flow and small to medium flows.
Q: How to choose between R80, R160, or R200?
A: For general industrial water use with relatively stable flow, the economical R80 is sufficient. If DMA zoning or capturing nighttime micro-leakage is needed, the high-precision R160 or R200 is recommended.
Q: Can the T90 hot water version be used for cold water?
A: Yes. The T90 version uses heat-resistant materials and is fully compatible with cold water applications, suitable for situations where the water temperature is uncertain or might be upgraded to hot water in the future.
Q: The meter is designed for horizontal installation. Can it be installed vertically?
A: The WPD meter is designed for horizontal installation (register facing up). Do not install it vertically or tilted, as this will affect metering accuracy and service life.
Q: Does the battery need regular replacement?
A: The mechanical reading part requires no battery. If an NB-IoT remote module is selected, the built-in lithium battery typically lasts over 6 years, with a low battery alarm when replacement is due.
Q: What is the flow range for the DN40 meter?
A: With the R160 measuring range ratio, the DN40 meter has Q3=25 m³/h and Q1=0.156 m³/h, covering flows from small to medium levels for commercial user needs.
