Product Description
The LXLG series horizontal vane wheel water meter (also known as Woltmann type) is the most widely used mechanical flow meter in agricultural irrigation. Its internal vane rotates like a water wheel as water flows axially through the meter, driving a gear train that accumulates the volume on a mechanical register.
Designed specifically for the challenging conditions of irrigation, this meter tolerates small amounts of sand, weeds, and other impurities commonly found in open water sources. It features low pressure loss, high flow capacity, and a removable measuring mechanism for easy maintenance without breaking the pipeline.
WINMETER offers the full range from DN50 to DN300, covering applications from small farms to large irrigation districts.
Key Features
- Designed for Agricultural Irrigation: Suitable for river, canal, well, lake water and reclaimed water irrigation.
- Can be Used as Sewage Water Meter: Durable construction allows metering of agricultural wastewater and reclaimed water.
- Removable Mechanism: The internal measuring unit can be replaced without removing the meter body from the pipeline – easy maintenance.
- Anti‑Blockage Design: Special vane wheel structure resists wrapping by weeds, sand, and debris.
- High Flow Capacity: Horizontal vane wheel design ensures low pressure loss and high flow rates up to DN300.
- Long Service Life: Ductile iron body with epoxy coating, metal cover, wear‑resistant components.
- Hermetically Sealed Register: Copper case prevents fogging, ensures clear long‑term reading.
- Pulse Output Optional: Ready for remote reading (reed switch / Hall sensor) to connect with SCADA or IoT systems.
Working Principle
Water enters the meter axially, passes through a flow straightener, and drives a horizontally mounted vane wheel. The rotational speed of the vane is proportional to the flow velocity. Through a gear reduction mechanism, the rotation is transmitted to a mechanical register, displaying the total volume passed.

2. Maintenance:
- Removable mechanism: The internal measuring unit can be extracted without removing the meter body – easy cleaning or replacement.
- Periodically check register operation.
- Close valves if meter is unused for long periods.
- Protect from freezing in winter (drain or insulate).
- Clean glass if fogging occurs.
Packaging & Shipping
- Packaging: Bubble wrap + wooden crate (all large sizes DN250/DN300 in strong wooden crates).
- Delivery time: Stock items 48h; custom orders (DN250/DN300) 7‑15 working days.

FAQ
Q: What is the difference between a horizontal vane wheel meter and a standard water meter?
A: The horizontal vane (Woltmann) meter has an axial flow design, offering very low pressure loss and high flow capacity. Its vane shape is less sensitive to debris, making it ideal for irrigation.
Q: Can it be used in muddy water?
A: Yes, it tolerates sand and small fibers. For extremely muddy water, a pre‑filter or settling tank is recommended to prolong life.
Q: Can it really be used for sewage water?
A: It is suitable for agricultural wastewater and reclaimed water due to its wear‑resistant materials and anti‑clog design. For aggressive industrial effluent, an electromagnetic meter is recommended.
Q: What is the advantage of a removable mechanism?
A: You can service or replace the internal measuring part without dismantling the meter body – minimal downtime and easy maintenance.
Q: What is the difference between cold water and hot water versions?
A: Cold water (T50) ≤50°C, accuracy ±2%/±5%; hot water (T90) ≤90°C, accuracy ±3% over whole range.
Q: Does it need power?
A: Basic mechanical version needs no power. Pulse output and smart versions require external power or battery.
Q: How heavy are DN250 and DN300 meters?
A: DN250: ~60‑80kg; DN300: ~80‑100kg. Lifting equipment is necessary during installation. WINMETER can provide on‑site guidance if needed.
